Venice’s charm has captivated the world so much that some countries have created their own versions of the Italian city. Las Vegas has its Venetian hotel and casino while Macau has its own replica of Venice’s grand canal. Now, the Philippines has its own version of Venezia.

Located at McKinley Hill in Taguig, the replica of Venice is actually a commercial space. Property developer Megaworld first finished Venice Piazza years ago and now it is slowly opening the Venice Grand Canal Mall to the public. The grand canal is the most “authentic” of all the replicas. That’s according to one Venetian artist, at least. 

Born and raised in Venice, Marcoroberto Ascione believes that the Philippine version is the best. “In Las Vegas, the Rialto Bridge is over a road not a river. In Macau, the water is blue (it’s supposed to be green) and it has a roof,” he says.
